Ben Gazzara dies at 81; veteran actor of stage and screen
In a 60-year career that began on stage, the gravel-voiced Ben Gazzara appeared in more than 100 films and TV movies. He also starred in the 1960s series 'Run for Your Life,' enjoyed a renaissance in the '90s and won an Emmy in 2002.
A New York native of Sicilian heritage, Ben Gazzara was a strongly masculine, subtly menacing screen presence with a gravelly voice that one writer described as "saloon-cured" and another said could strip paint at 50 paces.

George Clooney vs. Brad Pitt: Who has more awards heat?
It's rare enough when an awards season brings one movie from each superstar; it's even less common to get a pair of films from each of them.

Review: 'Big Miracle' exceeds expectations
Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski save the whales in this agreeable true-ish story.
The success of last year's "Dolphin Tale"proved this theorem: Imperiled marine animals + true-ish story + workmanlike sincerity + happy ending = a hit. Will the equation hold for director Ken Kwapis' whale movie"Big Miracle"?

Review: 'Chronicle' is smart about its telekinetic teens
'Chronicle' explores an old question — if you had superpowers, would you do good or evil? — energetically and intelligently.
Was it Superman's, Spider-Man's or Socrates' uncle who said, "With great power comes great responsibility?" Regardless, it would have proved sound advice for the suddenly telekinetic teens at the center of the raw, electrical charge of "Chronicle."

Review: 'Kill List'
In Ben Wheatley's horror-thriller, two hit men go on a harrowing and bloody mission into the occult. It's so intense that some will look away.
If you're a hit man by trade, then you've already made a deal with the devil, even if those you eliminate fall into the category of human waste of the drug-dealing, kidnapping, warmongering sort. So really, it should come as no surprise that Jay and Gal, the murdering blokes in the twisted horror-thriller "Kill List," have gotten themselves into a bizarre fix, though having to seal a contract in blood should have been a tip-off.

Movie review: 'Crazy Horse'
Frederick Wiseman brilliantly reveals the inner workings of Paris' Crazy Horse nightclub and the artful nude dancers who perform there.
If Frederick Wiseman's involving new documentary "Crazy Horse" is any indication, that old rule about how you get to Carnegie Hall — "practice, practice, practice" — applies equally well to that Parisian temple of self-described "nude chic" known to its intimates simply as "Le Crazy."
